Ornamental tattoos
Custom ornamental, mandala and dotwork tattoos by Maddy in Bend, Oregon, in black and grey.
Ornamental tattooing is decoration in its purest form: symmetry, pattern, dotwork and flowing shapes designed to frame and flatter the body. Think mandalas, mirrored leaf shapes, starbursts, crescent moons and lace-like detail that follows the curve of a forearm, a leg or the whole back.
What I love about ornamental work is how it fits the body. A good ornamental piece isn't a flat sticker; it's drawn to move with your body. I build each design around your placement, so a forearm piece wraps naturally and a back piece balances across your shoulders and spine.
Ornamental pieces I've done and love doing:
- Mandalas and geometric designs
- Mirrored, symmetrical pieces with dotwork shading
- Celestial ornamentals with stars and crescent moons
- Large back pieces mixing mandalas with roses, peonies and bees
Ornamental work blends beautifully with florals and geometric elements, and everything I do is black and grey, so the contrast stays crisp for years. Bigger pieces can be split into multiple sessions, and we'll plan that together.
I'll be in Bend at Rider Tattoo Studio November 3–21, 2026. Whether you're local to Bend or coming in from elsewhere in Central Oregon, send me your idea on the booking page.

FAQ
What is an ornamental tattoo?
A decorative style built on pattern, symmetry and dotwork, often including mandalas, filigree and celestial motifs.
Can ornamental work be a big piece?
Yes. Back pieces and sleeves are usually done over several sessions; I'll map out a plan with you.
Is ornamental the same as geometric?
They overlap. Geometric leans on precise shapes and lines; ornamental is more decorative and flowing. Many pieces mix both.
